If you’re looking for an authentic western town that’s retained much of its old-world charm, Belle Fourche could be the place for you!
It’s located at the confluence of the Haycreek, Redwater, and Belle Fourche Rivers; hence the name Belle Fourche (French for “beautiful fork”).
The town is a hub for livestock auctions and wool shipping, and is home to one of the oldest rodeos in the state, the Black Hills Roundup.
It’s also home to the Center of the Nation, which is situated just 20 miles north of the town and consists of a monument and a museum.
Not far away, on the opposite end of town, are private ranches where visitors can go on actual dinosaur digging tours. The tours are run by Paleoadventures, a commercial paleontological company dedicated to preserving the dinosaur fossils in this part of the United States.
